TNEK JAZZ QUINTET - Play the Music of Sam Jones
www.tnekjazz.com
Kent Miller -Bass, Darius Scott-Piano, Greg Holloway-Tenor and Soprano Saxes, Antonio Parker-Alto Sax
recorded Springfield VA in 2020
This Quintet is, I presume lead by the bassist Kent Miller, who like the other members I know little or nothing about. Biographical details on the sleeve notes mainly match those on the website.
What we do have is, albeit short (38+ minutes) of straight ahead jazz celebrating the music written by Bassist Sam Jones (with one by Kenny Barron) who played for many years with The Adderley Brothers, Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans and Cedar Walton.
I have to say it is a joy from start to finish, again lacking information, I presume that listening to the interplay between the band members, they are well known to each other. It is one of those CDs that as soon as you hear the first notes you get a smile on your face and just know that you are going to enjoy yourself.
Where to purchase it outside of the USA might be a problem though, the online behemoth doesn't list it, so probably it is best to contact their website (see above). Please seek it out though, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.
