MPT (MAX PLATTNER TRIO) - ll

cacked anegg records CD crack0074

Lorenzo Sighel, saxophone, rap; Marco Stagni, double bass, electric bass; Max Plattner, drums
Recorded at Feedback Studios, Vienna, Austria

MPT, is a trio of musicians who are serious about their music and who, in playing it, exhibit a clear identity all their own, drawing their influences from all over and including the dominion of Pop Culture.

Definitely a band of today and for today, they open with an eloquently defined alto sax statement driven by a brash, lurid, explosive propellant.  That polarisation, between articulateness and dynamism, initiates a penetrating sense of variation between the intense emotions at play here.  It is in a subtle, yet authoritative manner that their clever, innate musicality and its erudite structuring encourage the autonomy of their elucidation and that freedom is cogently apparent in their soundscapes.

There are agreeable melodies that also encompass well-proportioned measures of extemporisation.  There is rhythmic music for dance and rock, chord expressions and Parker-like swing and be-bop.  Delicate post-bop too and free bop is not excluded and tentative hints and touches of anything you ever heard of.

I enjoyed this album thoroughly, from its very start and track by track afterwards: it is very good indeed.
