MARK WADE TRIO - Event Horizon
Mark Wade Music Limited
Tim Harrison (piano), Mark Wade (bass), Scott Neumann (drums).
If you like Jazz trios then you should seriously consider listening to this album. From the opening track ‘Jump for Joy’ to the humour of the last track ‘If I Only Had a Brian’ this is a bright and often uplifting recording.
The interplay between the three instruments is never dull and manages to be honest while steering clear of pretention. There are also some more contemplative tracks like ‘The Prisoner’ that give the listener plenty to think about. The ‘Event Horizon’ is suggestive of new possibilities emerging within what you might think of as a well-established format.
If the combination of piano, bass and drums in jazz is hardly new then this album suggests that there is still room for this arrangement to grow. Given this is the debut album by the trio I fully expect to be hearing more about them sometime soon.
