LINLEY WEIR - Just One More Time

SELF PRODUCED

Linley Weir (v); John Crawford (p); Andy Hamill (b, elb); Simon Pearson (d); Jansen Santana (pc); Santi Jayashina ( t, flh, clo)

The music on this CD was all composed by singer Linley apart from one composition from Ivan Lins, which is special to her and a song called Prime Time which she co-wrote with Ross Lorraine. The opening song, Big Oak Tree is exceptionally good with a fine melody, good construction and sung soulfully by Ms Weir. The next two pieces are almost as good and are sung with feeling. Just One More Time has a neatly executed bass solo from Hamill. Linley blends her voice seamlessly with the combo and there are some nice touches from percussionist Santana and Shanti Jayasinha who plays trumpet and cello on various tracks.

Linley has an attractive voice and most of her songs are melodic and well -constructed although in a programme of music lasting forty odd minutes, a couple of good standards might have gone down well. She can obviously compose good tunes although once used to her style there is not as much variety as you might hope for. A familiar melody or two would have provided balance and freshness.

The CD is dedicated to Linley’s mother who was born in Fiji and there is certainly plenty of warmth, invention, zest and originality on offer here. The combo support faultlessly throughout the entire programme. This is gently swinging music for a relaxing time.
