LEANDRE/DELBECQ/HOULE - 14 rue Paul Fort, Paris
Leo Records CD LR 731
JOËLLE LEANDRE, bass; BENOIT DELBECQ, prepared piano; FRANÇOIS HOULE, clarinets
Recorded November 2013
Brilliantly improvised, this is music for both the intellect and the senses. It is adroitly fabricated and with considerable expertise. Its essential structure supports the synthesis of a highly refined, though always extemporaneous dialectic. It’s sometimes chat, sometimes tête-à-tête, but always conversation with a compassion for each other’s like-mindedness.
Each moment of interplay between the three instruments offers a changing unanimity of differently capricious harmonies, so much so that any contemplative hiatus between any of the artists seems to be affectionate and endearing, and together they become reliable sponsors of harmony.
The trio is radiant, its performance dazzling and the music spirits me away to a rich and unexpected world.
