GLOSTRUP TRION FEATURING ALICE CARRERI - Spirit

Storyville 101 4298

Alice Carreri ( vocal ) Guest soloist Tomas Franck ( tnr ) Torben Kjaer( pno ) Henrik Dhyrbye ( bass ) Ole Streenberg ( drs )
Recorded in The Village Recording Denmark, June 2014

Glostrup Trioen is a Danish piano trio which features singer Alice Carreri and also has a guest soloist on tenor saxophone Tomas Franck. Alice Carreri has a pleasant light toned voice and has a good grasp of the lyrics of the song. Tomas Franck is one of those post Coltrane tenor players who appears to lack direction and there little change of emphasis in his playing.

The album has a nice varied programme from Jacques Brel’s “Ne Me Quitte Pas” to Cole Porter’s “So In Love”. The most interesting track is the old hit song “Too Young To Go Steady” marred only by the tenor player’s interjections and weak solo which owed much to Coltrane’s recording of the same tune but the pianist’s solo makes up for this.

The other interesting track is the trio’s interpretation of the Miles Davis / Bill Evans composition “Blue In Green”.

This could have been a much better album but for the inclusion of the tenor player who added nothing to the proceedings.
