BBRS – Improvising in the Consulting Room
Leo Records – CD LR 769
DENIS BEURET, trombone, whistling / DOMINIK BURGER, drums / JERRY ROJAS, guitar / EKKEHARD SASSENHAUSEN, reeds
Recorded September 2014 at The Consulting Room, Zurich, Switzerland
BBRS is named from the initial letters of the surnames of the quartet’s members all of whom are Swiss. Their improvisations are audacious and very striking, each opening in a Free format then seeming to segue into a more corpulent configuration.
The four artists are clearly fervent with regard to their music and each is given the kind of cosmos needed to fully exploit their individual flair as well as the articulacy that accompanies their passion.
The whole is a penetrating discourse in music that paints, in broad brush-strokes from the trombone and some fine detail from the lighter instruments, a rigorous aural scenario that is stimulating yet mesmerising. Absolutely lovely.
